SOUND
Designing sound and demonstrating various travels/operations of sound are areas that I enjoy exploring artistically. Much of my visual and motion art is inspired by recorded and processed sounds of the natural world.
Sound Design
When creating a visual world unlike any other, an equally unique sound is needed to bring it to life. Whether creating spooky wind noises from running a noise generator through a low-pass filter (with high resonance), or using a slowly-modulated arpeggio to intensify a scene’s building suspense; any sound can be created by synthesizers to represent any type of moment. The sounds generated from basic sine, square, triangle (and other experimental waves) are the basic building blocks to all sound. By creating sound libraries comprised of these fundamental samples, completely original (and royalty-free) compositions are achievable. Price for sound design packages is on a sliding scale and requires a three month advanced notice.
Sound Events
Sound events are a good way to teach Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics (STEAM) in classrooms and art studios. When all of these components are equally represented, it becomes a unique way to inspire imagination in each field. It also creates opportunities to think “outside of the box” and discuss different approaches to problem-solving. Using an array of new and obsolete technology, I’ve created a series of presentations that demonstrate integrating modern technology with obsolete technology and other STEAM-based topics. Discussion is also encouraged on the impact obsolete technology has on the environment and ways artists can work toward a more sustainable process. Visual projections can be added to enhance any sound demonstration using a variety of new and traditional video synthesis techniques. Price for sound events is on a sliding scale and requires a three month advanced notice.
Sound events include:
- Introduction workshop on fundamentals of synthesis with live demonstration, interactivity
- Identifying and operating with plants, fruits and vegetables to create music-like sounds with synthesizers
- Painting and sculpting with conductive materials for performance
- Using electronic sensors to adjust parameters of musical instrumentation
- Creating new art from discarded technology, or “Upcycling”
- DIY modular “sound bath” kits for personal or group wellness routines
- Other group synthesis demonstrations, workshops, games and events
