Consequence

In 2020, Consequence of Sound changed its name and rebranded itself as “Consequence.” Though the site’s initial focus was on music-related news stories, features and interviews, the updated site incorporated other topics such as film, television and general pop culture. It was during this time that I was hired as Art Director to ensure the branding was consistent throughout the Consequence site, newsletters, video content, social media posts and items for the Consequence Shop.

Many of Consequence’s reoccurring articles were converted into social media content and it was my duty to imagine the branding and creating the asset libraries. Over time, many of these elements were created with motion elements for video content.

From my days as Assistant Art Director to my final role as Art Director, most of the Consequence Cover Stories featured art created exclusively by myself. I worked on the logos, backgrounds, illustrated pull quotes, photo illustrations and other elements for the site. In collaboration with the web team, I was able to supply the finalized files in a timely an organized fashion, mostly requiring a quick turnaround. I also hand-illustrated many of the fonts used in CSS animations and pull quotes, supplying the editors and web team with complete font files for digital applications and print. The Tomorrow X Together cover story was also printed as a 40 page magazine, designed and prepared by myself.

Exclusive interviews posted daily on the site required featured (or “HERO”) images to accompany each article. Each illustration needed to reflect the artist’s personality while keeping consistent with the site’s branding and social content. Other featured images requests include: collages, editorial illustrations and themed content.

The Consequence Podcast Network features popular podcasts such as The Opus, Story Behind the Song, Consequence Uncut, Beyond the Boys Club and Going There with Dr. Mike. It was my responsibility to collaborate with the podcast creators or to create new branding ideas. Once approved, asset libraries were created for social media, video and writing teams.

In 2020, the Consequence Shop was created to help offset operation costs during the pandemic. The Consequence writing staff was responsible for sharing ideas for the design team to execute. It was my responsibility to create unique designs for each Stock Keeping Unit (SKU), work with the staff to fine-tune the ideas, then create print-ready files and asset libraries for internal and external marketing.
